This week’s Wonder Wednesday dives into your top questions, straight from the community. Check out the latest insights from the team.
Q: How about moving more towards the Web2 side of things, like onboarding large communities such as League of Legends? For example, if people buy a skin in League of Legends, could they enter a code to get a 3D NFT avatar in NetVRk? There are lots of ways to monetize these things while growing the user base.
A: That’s an interesting idea, and bringing major Web2 communities into Web3 is something we always think about. However, integrating with a game like League of Legends isn’t something that can happen overnight. Riot Games would need to be directly involved, and large publishers tend to move cautiously when it comes to blockchain integrations. These kinds of partnerships require significant discussions, legal agreements, and technical work to ensure everything aligns with their ecosystem and player experience. That said, we are exploring ways to integrate well-known gaming communities through NFT interoperability, branded collaborations, and in-game rewards. The key is making blockchain adoption seamless so players don’t feel like they have to jump through extra hoops to enjoy the benefits. While onboarding massive franchises like LoL would be a long-term challenge, we’re focused on creating real value and utility that can attract mainstream users over time.
Q: Just saw a piece about The Sims, still 80 million people play this. They will not publish a new game. Wouldn’t NetVRk be the best place to start the new Sims?
A: The Sims is an iconic game with a massive player base, and there’s definitely overlap with what we’re building in NetVRk. However, creating a direct replacement for The Sims is easier said than done. Decades of development, brand loyalty, and a dedicated team at EA have made The Sims what it is today.
That said, NetVRk offers something different, a fully immersive, player-driven metaverse where users can build, own, and monetize their experiences. While we’re not aiming to be “The Sims in Web3”, we do provide tools for social interaction, customization, and creativity that could appeal to that audience. Plus, with our upcoming Creation Engine, users will have the freedom to build unique worlds, games, and experiences that go beyond traditional life-simulation games.
The key is not just copying what exists, but innovating in ways that take advantage of Web3 and user ownership. If Sims players are looking for a new home, NetVRk could absolutely be a place to explore and create in ways they never could before!
